Château La Louvière Red 2020

Château La Louvière | Red

AOC Pessac-Léognan

Présentation

Château La Louvière has many fascinating facets. The sumptuous architecture of the château building dates from the late 18th century, but winegrowing here goes back more than 700 years. The first vines were planted circa 1310, although modern winemaking dates from the 17th century and was handed down by able monks from the Carthusian monastery in Bordeaux, who had acquired considerable talent as viticulturists and winemakers. The people who produce the wine in the 21st century have inherited these time-honoured methods, adding just the right amount of innovation and modernity to make the utmost of the outstanding terroir. La Louvière's red wine has a dark colour and an elegant bouquet with delicate hints of oak...

Conditions météorologiques

2020 was marked by very mild temperatures and contrasting precipitation: heavy spring rainfall was followed by an intense summer drought. The fairly mild winter led to early bud break. The summer heat gave way to cool nights in late August, ideal for ripening grapes.

Vendanges

8 September - 30 September 2020

Dégustation

Very dark purple colour, with violet and almost black highlights.
Very expressive and fine, the nose lets out notes of black fruits, very ripe (plum, blackcurrant, blackberry...); all associated, in the background, with a light toastiness.
On the palate, we find a lot of balance and a nice structure. The fruit (strawberry, blackberry), very ripe, juicy, fills the palate, to our great pleasure. Nice length with more spicy notes. It is an elegant wine, full of gourmet pleasure. It should be kept for one or two years.

93/100

Intense purple colour with violet hue and black core. Well structured nose with aroma reminiscent of blackberries, blackcurrants, ripe plums and black cherries, elegant toasting aroma in the background. On the palate well balanced and structured with power and good aromatic expression, ripe tannins, displaying an exciting tension and convincing length.

The 2020 La Louvière comes out of the traps running with quite precocious blackberry, blueberry and mint scents, high-toned, almost flamboyant. The new oak is present but neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins that frame quite plush red berry fruit laced with white pepper and sage. Maybe the growing season leaves too much of an imprint on this Pessac-Léognan and yet it is undeniably well-balanced, quite complex and delicious. Afford it 3-5 years in bottle at least.

Good quality, sappy, balanced, purposeful and delivers black fruits, liqourice root, sandalwood and creamy capucinno notes. A little tight on the finsh, but this is an impressive wine with character.

Dark fruits, crushed stones, liquorice and purple flowers on the nose. Lovely freshness and sense of life, acidity is high but really balances the ripe fruit. Energetic and easy to enjoy, everything in place with nothing sticking out. An enjoyable and easily accessible wine that's ready to approach and enjoy now but will also continue to mature. Clean, crisp, juicy and finessed, a pristine quality to the fruit and such beautiful acidity making this a fun and totally moreish wine. I love the herbal/mentholated finish too! A great wine.
