Château de Rochemorin Red 2022

Château de Rochemorin | Red

AOC Pessac-Léognan

Présentation

Château de Rochemorin belonged to the great philosopher and writer Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, in the 18th century. Among other famous works, he was the author of the "Persian Letters". Montesquieu was a fine ambassador for the red wines of Rochemorin among his friends, acquaintances and the notables he met during his trips throughout Europe, never forgetting to praise the beautiful complexity and mineral characteristics of his wine, so typical of the Graves terroir. Its beautiful aromatic expression, accompanied by a well-balanced and elegant palate make this one of the most reliable wines in the appellation, while remaining very affordable.

Conditions météorologiques

2022 was a particularly atypical year due to extreme weather conditions. ln addition to a very early frost in the spring, which affected the vineyard just as the vines were starting to bud, there was a long period of exceptional drought from May until the end of September. The result was low yields and a perfect state of health at harvest time throughout the vineyard.

Vendanges

1 September - 4 October 2022

Dégustation

Deep, crimson-red colour.
The nose is intense with a predominance of black fruits (blackcurrant and black cherry). A touch of sweetness is added by subtle hints of vanilla and pastry, the hallmark of oak barrel ageing.
On the palate, the attack is smooth, with a lovely freshness and a structure full of relief. The mid-palate is elegant and the finish is lively, with a long persistence of toasted notes. This is a wine of great finesse that reflects a remarkable vintage.

logo

Lovely cocoa, ripe black fruit and floral nuances, smells like sweet chocolate which is so appealing. Sleek and suave, lovely finesse to this but still with bite and concentration that gives a focussed, pure and concentrated texture with slightly sweet blackcurrant and black cherries. Tannins are mouthfilling but cool and fresh with some saltiness and soft bitterness that gives a slight tang. Really well worked, a lovely gentle delicate frame, lots of life and energy here. Something so delicious and creamy about this. 2% Cabernet Franc completes the blend. (En Primeur tasting)

Intense purple colour with violet hue and black core. Aromatic nose with persistent character and fine fruit, blackcurrants, elderberries and red forest berries, hints of blackcurrant spurs and aromatic herbs, in the background hints of mild spices. On the palate elegant with a certain finesse, ripe tannins, aromatic fruit and discreet hints of minerality. Very good length. (En primeur tasting)
