Château de Rochemorin Red 2020

Château de Rochemorin | Red

AOC Pessac-Léognan

Présentation

Château de Rochemorin belonged to the great philosopher and writer Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, in the 18th century. Among other famous works, he was the author of the "Persian Letters". Montesquieu was a fine ambassador for the red wines of Rochemorin among his friends, acquaintances and the notables he met during his trips throughout Europe, never forgetting to praise the beautiful complexity and mineral characteristics of his wine, so typical of the Graves terroir. Its beautiful aromatic expression, accompanied by a well-balanced and elegant palate make this one of the most reliable wines in the appellation, while remaining very affordable.

Conditions météorologiques

Extremely mild weather and contrasting rainfall marked 2020: heavy spring rains, severe summer drought. The warm winter favored early budburst. With the summer heat behind us, the cool nights of late August were highly beneficial to grape ripening.

Dégustation

Colour is a lovely deep red with purple highlights.
Pleasant nose with notes of black fruits such as blackberry or blackcurrant. Slightly spicy notes enhance the whole.
The attack is supple. There is good volume and sweetness in the middle palate. The tannic structure is remarkable with noticeable tannins on the finish. These are well coated. This is a powerful wine, in a very fine vintage.

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost blackcore. Aromatic nose reminiscent of blackcurrant jelly, blackberries, tobacco and cigar-box, vanilla and mild spices with fine toasting. On the palate well structured with ripe fruit, dark blackcurrants and blackberries, plums, velvety tannins, excellent with very good length.

The 2020 Château de Rochemorin has quite a punchy nose with energetic blackberry and boysenberry fruit, lovely definition and purity, scents of potpourri and lavender simmering in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite structured with edgy acidity. Well-balanced and displaying neatly-integrated oak, very focused with gentle grip on the finish. Very fine.
